Goodwin Hall is one of the original recital spaces at Peabody Institute, located in a building dating from the early 1900’s. Air-conditioning was added to the space approximately 30 years ago. The system made so much noise it had to be turned off during concerts and recitals.
The existing reciprocating chiller and DX air-handling unit, and all associated ductwork, were replaced with a field fabricated air-handler that included chilled water cooling, hot water preheat and reheat, steam humidification, extensive sound attenuation (designed for an NC level of 23 in the Hall), and DDC controls. New ductwork and air devices were provided to improve distribution and reduce equipment noise. The new system was designed to maintain strict temperature and humidity levels to accommodate historic artifacts on display in the Hall. All areas around the recital hall were occupied during construction, and construction was phased.
