Natatorium Infrastructure Upgrade
Johns Hopkins University, Homewood Campus
Baltimore, MD

This project involved the HVAC, electrical, and architectural renovation of a 15,600 SF Natatorium in an occupied athletic center. Initially, all existing steam heating and ventilation units were to be replaced with a package rooftop dehumidifier with heat recovery. At the 30% design level, the plan was changed to replace the HVAC systems in-kind. Automatic temperature controls were upgraded to be DDC, with optional purge mode and associated fans.

In addition, electrical power and lighting systems were replaced, and significant repairs to the building envelope and swimming pool were implemented. As prime consultant for the project, MEC led a team that included architectural, structural, and cost estimating firms. Construction was completed in July 2004 at a cost of approximately $750,000.
